What a ride!! We had
a lousy night last night with all the rough seas! According to the information they provide on
the TV we are experiencing 12 foot waves but the swells are what cause all the
ship movement. Since this is a very
large ship she has a tendency to “wallow” ( I know the feeling!). Smaller ships cut through the water more
efficiently. That, my dears, is your
nautical lesson of the day.
During the night there were many times we thought we were
going to be tossed out of bed. You have
to lie flat either on your back or stomach.
Lying on your side doesn’t provide enough stability so you get thrown
over. Sort of like being on “Space
Mountain” at Disneyland!!
The outside weather continues to be cool and we went through
a cold front this morning that brought rain.
You would hardly know it from inside.
The pools are closed because of the roughness so the sun worshippers are
getting testy.
Miserable day at the “trivia office” today. Missed by ½ a point this morning and by a
mile this afternoon but I’m starting to hang around smarter people!!
Not sure what the weather will bring tomorrow and we are
shutting down early this evening since we are safest there. It’s pretty much an effort to get around the
ship and I’d rather use that energy to stay put in bed!!
We have met up with several staff members from previous
cruises and it’s nice to be remembered, hopefully in a nice way! Also met a nice couple from S. CA that will
be on our Baltic and Transatlantic in the fall.
Sending lots of love from the “angry” Pacific.
XOXOXOXO

Wow! I love to be rocked to sleep, but rocked out of bed....Yikes! Any first timers must just think frequent cruisers are nuts.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting your trivia groove on finally. Two days of duds was certainly a record for you!
I know the high seas are a drag when you want to sleep....but that's the fun part of being in a floating hotel.....I'm pretty sure you're a good sailor....but it's lots of fun watching people rush to the rail...
ReplyDeleteBut.. These days the sickies hide in their suites...
Remember the mediterreanen cruise December 1959? Everyone sick as a dog... And for some reason.. Everyone was barred from their cabins all day (military ships could do that)...so all day long the passengers wandered the decks carrying paper wretch bags...that was real cruising!
I was one of those, Jim! I'll always remember Dad dragging me to one of the upped decks and exhorting me to "watch the horizon". That was nearly impossible while retching! Then he fed me apple slices and saltines.
DeleteThose memories are still so vivid and that's why I always take Bonine whether I need it or not. It a head game now.

ReplyDeleteThis is a repeat of the email I sent via the blog. Guess I hit the wrong button. You must have sailed through the storm which arrived here last night. - wind and rain until late this afternoon (Tuesday). No trouble staying in our bed, however. You guys get all of the fun. Hope the seas have become more friendly. Carol (and David)
