Feb 18th – LA day and sailaway to Mexico

Docked early this morning in San Pedro and it was nice to sleep in and not rush to get ready to disembark.   Instead we took our time before going out  to observe all the deptarees!  Most of the passengers were off the ship by 10:30 so those of us “in transit” were escorted off the ship and through immigration and customs.  We were then shown to a waiting area where we found 300 Chinese in their Sunday best!!  We found out they were there for a wedding on the ship and it was a real “cluster ….”.  When we found out that the “wedding party” was going on first, some tempers flared!  Our dear friend Doris gave them a piece of her mind and so did Sailor Ed.  Guess what, the “in transit” passengers got on first!!! Ha! Take that!  I sure don’t EVER want Doris and Ed to be mad at me at the same time!!!  Hooooey!

The whole process took longer than it should have but we got over it as soon as we boarded and had the ship to ourselves for about an hour.  Then the mongol invaders arrived onboard and were moved around by many “handlers”.  The wedding was in the theater and then they took over one of the dining rooms for their luncheon.  At one point the immediate family (about 50) were in the atrium trying to get organized for a picture and it truly was “a Chinese fire drill”.  We were all very amused!  Most of them left the ship about 3:30 as we sailed at 4pm.

So, I am so embarrassed to tell you this next story but since I have involved you in my trivia travails I have to be completely transparent, no matter how humiliating.

This evening at nine they had a “Welcome Aboard” trivia and 2 of my former teammates and I showed up at the venue.  So far, so good.  Then the guy from the Cruise Director’s staff showed up with the pencils and paper……still, all just peachy.
Then he starts the power point presentation and when we see the first question we realized that we did this VERY trivia two weeks ago!  Oh, joy!  After 5 or six questions a young couple joins us and we agree since we are only three and you are allowed 6 players!  Plus we don’t want to be recognized and called out!!!  So, the next question is “What is the Japanese form of Fencing called?”  We drew a flipping blank!  Not one of us could remember KENDO! Ok, so we miss one…..makes it more authentic, right?  Last question: Who said, “It is too bad there is there is so little useless information” (or something very similar, I forget the exact words)?  Well, we come up with either Mark Twain or Oscar Wilde, we can’t remember which is the correct answer and the young couple look like “duh?”  So we settle on an answer….THE WRONG ONE!!  It was Oscar Wilde!!
The KARMA here is that we had 18/20 and the winners had 19/20!!!  We lose by one!  Second place….YET AGAIN!  I have to tell you we three sat there for 15 minutes laughing till tears!  We may not be winning but we are having a wonderful time!!

It was great to hear your voices today!  Happy, happy birthday, today, to our dear Connor!  Tomorrow is Mason’s BIG 3 birthday!  We send special hugs and kisses to the birthday boys!!
Sea day tomorrow….good thing we really like them!

Much love from

XOXOXOXOXO

  1. You probably already know this trivia, but heard it on Sunday Morning and instantly thought, "oh, that's probably asked in trivia games." So, who was the president that delivered the longest inauguration speech, but served the shortest time in office? William Henry Harrison.
